Wharfedale Denton 80th Anniversary speaker
Founded in 1932 by Gilbert Briggs, Wharfedale has, over its 80 year history, become one of the most recognised and respected speaker manufacturers in the world by concentrating on quality and value for money in each and every product it has made.
In order to celebrate its 80th anniversary, Wharfedale has re-released a very limited version (only 20 pairs available in Australia) of one of its most famous loudspeakers to date, the Denton – a speaker that exemplified the three edicts; balancing fine craftsmanship, natural sound quality and affordability inside a compact loudspeaker.
Beautifully hand-crafted with veneered mahogany, an inset front baffle and traditional Tungsten cloth grill, the updated 80th anniversary Denton is a classic update of the original speaker. Underneath its exterior this Anniversary Edition is a perfect mixture of traditional and advanced speaker technologies.

The bass unit features Wharfedale’s own woven Kevlar cone mounted on a rigid die-cast chassis, while the high frequencies are handled by a woven textile soft-dome tweeter with a high flux ferrite magnet (rather than Neodymium). The drive units are combined with a highly researched crossover that blends the drivers perfectly.
The original Denton was known for its warm, rich sound and the 80th Anniversary Edition manages to retain the original character of the Denton while giving a more detailed, seamless performance.
Wharfedale successfully combines its strong history and modern technology in perfect fusion in this Denton 80th Anniversary Edition.
Peter Comeau, head of acoustics at Wharfedale’s parent company IAG, says, “In voicing them, I had in mind the original Dentons, which sounded musical but with a touch of warmth. The ferrite magnet tweeter gives a cleaner, softer, smoother treble than Neodymium designs.”
