Ube Unveils Disruptive Technology for the Connected Home
Spearheaded by former CEDIA US CEO Utz Baldwin, Ube is home technology simplified. The app is built using standard IP protocols to easily control IP enabled smart devices for the connected home from an iPhone or Android smartphone, eliminating the expense of extra hardware and programming.
The app can control over 200 IP-based devices including smart TVs, set top boxes, AV receivers, DVD players, thermostats, garage door openers and more. Ube communicates with IP-enabled devices directly from the smart phone using a standard WiFi router to send commands when the user is at home or over any wireless internet connection when away from home using the Ube Cloud. To extend consumer control into systems that lack an IP connection, the company unveiled three key IP enabled devices. These include an IP-based smart dimmer, smart wall outlet and smart plug. By moving the intelligence into the device – where it belongs – these smart energy device enable simple, intuitive smartphone control of home lighting and other appliances.
“Creating a truly connected home without Ube costs thousands of dollars, requires specialised central processing hardware and even more expensive programming and maintenance,” commented Utz Baldwin, co-founder and CEO of Ube.

“With Ube, anyone can control systems and devices in their home using a Smartphone, a WiFi Router and the Cloud. Lights, TVs, Set Top Boxes, Thermostats and much more become easily accessible. Ube is the essence of disruptive technology.”
Ube will be laucnhing the technology on Kickstarter under the heading of “Ube: Home Technology Simplified”.
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Ube is creating disruptive technologies for the Internet of Things, utilising the processing power of mobile devices and the ubiquity of cloud computing, to change the way consumers interact with, and benefit from technology. Centralised control of connected home electronics today requires expensive hardware, professional installation and custom software, making it prohibitively expensive. Ube – bringing smartphone based control to smart home electronics.
There is no word yet if (or when) Ube will arrive in Australia.
